Flagship course. Four hours, keynote, or custom workshop

Roadworthy Communication

De-escalation and conflict management for transit operators, frontline supervisors and customer service representatives. This is the course the company is named after.

Chapter 01

It starts with the operator, not the passenger

Nobody talks another person down while their own pulse is climbing. So the course opens on emotional state management and on breathing for stress control, which sounds soft until you have tried to choose your words carefully thirty seconds after somebody screamed at you.

Bill teaches what he calls the power pyramid, how mental filters change what an operator thinks they just heard, and how to build a powerful anchor that still works on the fourth incident of a long shift. These are the tools operators keep telling reviewers they took back to the route.

Then the tools you use out loud

Rapport building comes next, along with the de-escalation tools themselves and the SHOWTIME principle. The material covers building what Bill calls a trust bridge with a passenger, and managing conflict while under real pressure rather than in a calm classroom exercise.

Operator safety awareness runs through all of it. The point is never to win the exchange. The point is that the vehicle keeps moving, the operator finishes the shift, and nothing has to be written up afterwards.

Chapter 03

Three formats, one curriculum

The full course runs four hours. Where an agency cannot release operators for that long, the same material compresses into a sixty to ninety minute keynote that fits inside an existing safety meeting or conference program.

The third option is a customized workshop, built around what your own operators are actually running into. Bill will ask about the routes, the ridership and the incident pattern before he shapes it.

Who is in the room

Operators, frontline supervisors and customer service representatives, at transit agencies, school districts and industry associations nationwide. Reviewers regularly name Bill and Paul Henson together, because Paul co-delivers some sessions.

One Transdev reviewer wrote that Bill delivered an eight hour training in three and still kept the room engaged the whole way through.
