Dayton, Ohio. Training transit agencies nationwide since 2010

The first twenty seconds decide how the rest of the shift goes.

RWC Training teaches transit operators, frontline supervisors and customer service staff how to bring a difficult moment back down before it becomes an incident report. Taught by Bill Parsons, a retired 25-year inner-city police officer, detective and trained hostage negotiator.

On the record

Rated 5.0 by the people who sat through it.

One hundred and seventy eight Google reviews, and not an average among them. The reviewers are transit operators, supervisors and a Transdev crew who write the same thing in different words: they stayed interested, and they took something back to the route.

Bill on the job

Inside a four hour session

It is not a lecture about being nice to people.

Roadworthy Communication is built around what an operator can actually do while the bus is moving and a passenger is escalating. Bill teaches it the way he learned it, on the job, then in hostage negotiation.

Your own state first

You cannot lower someone else's temperature while yours is up.

The session opens on emotional state management and breathing for stress control, because everything after it depends on the operator being steady. Bill teaches the power pyramid, mental filters, and how to build what he calls a powerful anchor, so the tools survive contact with a real shift.

Then the other person

Open posture, a trust bridge, and words chosen on purpose.

Rapport building and the de-escalation tools themselves, including the SHOWTIME principle. Operators practise conflict management under pressure rather than reading about it, which is why reviewers keep saying the material was clear and that they were engaged the whole way through.

When talking is over

Court defensible technique, from the seated position.

Operator Safety and Self-Defense is deliberately the last thing taught, not the first. Awareness, prevention and de-escalation come first; the physical material covers what a seated operator can reasonably do against an armed or unarmed attacker, along with reasonableness, liability and documenting the incident afterwards.

Who is actually in the room

Twenty five years of the job, then twenty of teaching it.
